Pardon for attending Kirulapone rally?

Pardon for attending Kirulapone rally? Featured

Twelve MPs of the joint opposition have requested the president not to take any disciplinary action for the moment against SLFP activists who had attended the May Day rally at Kirulapone.

President Maithripala Sirisena summoned four leading members of the party on the night of May 10 and had extensive talks on the request.

The four have stressed that action should not be taken against electoral organizers, but that Basil Rajapaksa loyalists should be disciplinarily dealt with, ‘for having secret deals with the UNP.’

The president told them that many joint opposition MPs who have met him in the past few days have vowed to fight internally against the Basil Rajapaksa loyalists, who were bent on dividing the SLFP.

SLFP CC will decide

Meanwhile, UPFA general secretary Mahinda Amaraweera said yesterday (11) the SLFP central committee would take a decision with regard to party activists who attended the Kirulapone rally.

After calling on Most Ven. Davuldena Gnanissara Thera, he told the media that the CC would take several important decisions to keep the party intact and to obtain the support of many other parties for the UPFA.
