Sri Lanka football chief challenges rivals at election

Sri Lanka football chief challenges rivals at election Featured

President of the Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) Ranjith Rodrigo has challenged his detractors to contest him at the election if they are capable of running the sport in the country.

"If I am a person not worthy of my position then vote me out. I challenge anyone at an election and if I am voted out I will move out honourably", said Rodrigo who is currently in Australia.

"We should be preparing to hold the 2015 election in March but we are yet to conduct an election for 2014. This is because there is a court case filed by those who oppose us that prevents us from holding the election. If we go on like this and fail to conduct an election, we could be banned by the world governing body (FIFA).

If that happens the progress of football in Sri Lanka can come to a standstill. This is what our detractors want. I appeal to them to withdraw the court case and come for a democratic election to save football in the country". added Rodrigo.

Some 49 Leagues in the country have voting rights that make up 147 votes at stake.
