A group of Muslim Ministers and parliamentarians of the coalition government have decided to quit the government and extend support to common candidate Maithripala Sirisena. Accordingly, they are to give up their ministerial positions today (24) or tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) yesterday(23) decided to postpone taking the decision on whether they are to support a common candidate at the upcoming presidential election, or to extend support to the current President or to stand in for the election alone until the next discussion.

SLMC states that a decision will be announced after Maithirpala Sirisena, who is standing in for the election as the common candidate, presented his political manifesto.

Upon inquiring, General Secretary of the SLMC - Hasan Ali stated that since there is considerable amount of days until the presidential election, there is also sufficient time to take a decision.
