Retirement age to be extended to 65 yrs? Featured

The extension of retirement age for both state and private sector employees to 65 years is under consideration, says the government.

Secretary of the Jathika Sevaka Sangamaya Sirinal de Mel has written to finance minister Ravi Karunanayake on this matter.

This is pursuant to discussions de Mel had with prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and the finance minister on concessions to be granted to the public from budget 2017.

Several senior administrative officers, including ministry secretaries, are to retire within the next few months after reaching the present retirement age of 60 years.
