Even Lord Buddha had disapproved of Buddha statues being erected using force, says NSSP leader Vikramabahu Karunaratne.

It is an insult to erect Buddha statues in the north where there is no majority of followers of Buddhism, he has said in support of demands made at ‘Eluga Thami’ rally in Jaffna.

Speaking to the media in Colombo, Karunaratne described as a ‘blessed act’ the launch of a Tamil movement led by north chief minister C.V. Vigneswaran against militarization, sinhalization and forcing Buddhism upon the north.

The NSSP leader said the government had a responsibility to give a reasonable solution to demands by Tamils, who have been allowed to struggle democratically following the toppling of the Rajapaksa regime by forces in both the south and the north.

‘Eluga Thamil’ demonstrated the acceptance of the fact among Tamils that the TNA leadership was not doing much on their behalf.

Grabbing land by force by the military is not fair, he said, adding that it will be unavoidable that Sinhala leaders will be accused of colonialism if they disregard the northern provincial council when dealing with land of the north, radiogagana reports.
