Correctly interpret Vigneswaran’s remark - Vajira Featured

It is important the media again and again publishes the remarks made by north chief minister C.V. Vigneswaran that he will never act against the Sinhalese, Buddhists or any other community, says minister Vajira Abeywardena.

The minister was addressing a conference at the Sri Lanka Development Administration Institute in Colombo yesterday (29).

He said the media has not carried the entire statement by Vigneswaran, in which the CM claimed it was his responsibility to speak about the problems of the Tamils.

Certain groups, who have not correctly interpreted his remarks, are trying to sabotage reconciliation among communities, the minister charged.

Stressing that he has never been a racist in his life, Vigneswaran has told BBC Sandeshaya that the recently-held ‘Eluga Thamil’ was a peaceful march, not anti government or anti Sinhala Buddhist.

Noting that both his children were married to Sinhalese, Vigneswaran added that he would never want to be an anti-Sinhala Tamil racist.
