No action yet against DIG who harboured suspect Featured

Jaffna civil society organizations strongly criticize the law enforcement failure against former DIG of the north Lalith Jayasinghe over his having harbored Mahalingam Sivakumar, the main suspect in the gang-rape and murder of the girl Vidya Sivaloganathan.

CID investigations reveal that Jayasinghe had taken the suspect, who had been caught by the people and handed over to the police, to the Palaly airport and sent him to Colombo.

The CID arrested him while in hiding in Wellawatte, planning to leave the country.

Over this incident, people of Jaffna staged a hartal during which the court complex there came under a stone attack.

The CID report, sent to the attorney general’s department several months ago, says it has been established during investigations that Jaysinghe had abused his powers to help the accused.

No action has so far taken place against Jayasinghe, as the AG’s department is yet to give advice, srilaknews reports.
