Many irregularities in Namal’s importation of Ford Mustang Featured

Namal Rajapaksa has committed several serious irregularities when he got a Ford Mustang imported under the duty free vehicle allowance privilege for MPs, police sources say.

He has defrauded tax payments to the customs and the treasury and there is also a question of not paying income tax and concealing assets.

The factory price of a Ford Mustang is Rs. 09 million, and the shipping fees too, should be added.

The customs duty is 100 per cent if the engine capacity is 2000 and 125 pc if the engine capacity is 3000.

However, this is a racing car, and its engine capacity is over 5000, for which the duty is 300 pc.

Together with the import levy, the price of Namal’s Ford Mustang should be around Rs. 45 million.

MPs’ duty free vehicle license is for 2000 engine capacity and a CIF price of 50,000 dollars only, whereas a Ford Mustang’s CIF is 100,000 dollars.

The car, sold by Namal to an underworld gangster identified as G Boy, was recently seized by the FCID.

Meanwhile, cabinet spokesman Rajitha Senaratne has told the media that a Ford Mustang cannot be imported from the duty free vehicle allowance for MPs.
