The estimated expense of nearly Rs. 60 million to be spent for celebrations marking 150 years of the Sri Lanka Police, has been removed on the instructions of Minister of Law and Order Sagala Ratnayake.

Minister Ratnayake had taken the decision to slash all unnecessary expenditure, being informed of the lack of basic facilities for police officers such as shoes, during

 a pre-anniversary celebration at the  Police Field Force Headquarters.

The cost estimate for the celebrations were reportedly prepared under the complete supervision of the IGP Pujith Jayasundara.

According to the estimate, a souvenir book is also to be printed at a cost of Rs. 9.2 million.

However the minister had issued instructions to suspend the printing of the souvenir as well.  

Further, the short eats order placed at a five star hotel for VIP guests at a cost of Rs. 5 million had also been suspended on the instructions of the minister.
