Abductors did not intend to kill Businessman Suleiman? Featured

The Colombo Crime Division has arrested three main suspects and two others in connection with the murder of wealthy textile businessman from Bambalapitiya Mohamed Sahid Suleiman.

The main suspects are Suleiman’s accounts clerk Mohamed Nasir Khan, aged 23 years, and Mohamed Shinia Mohamed, who is 22 years of age and a nattami by profession.

Police had first suspected business partners who borrowed money from Suleiman and relatives from his mother’s side who were against his playboy character.

The passports of five businessmen have been suspended.

Investigations point to extortion as being a motive for the killing, with the two main suspects fulfilling a contract given by a secretary and close friend of Suleiman.

Deadly blow
The duo had waited near the businessman’s home for his arrival, and during their attempt to abduct him, they had dealt him a deadly blow.

They had kidnapped him without knowing that he was in fatal condition, and he had died on the way.

The abductors did not know that he had died when they demanded ransom from Suleiman’s family.

After they came to know that he had died, they had dumped him into a paddy field at Rukulagama junction in Mawanella.

Police say three more suspects are to be arrested.
