Norway backs newly resettled communities in Jaffna, Trinco

The Ambassador of Norway to Sri Lanka and Maldives - Thorbjørn Gaustadsæther and Resident Representative a.i. of the United Nations in Sri Lanka, Lovita Ramguttee signed an Agreement to extend Government of Norway’s support to the recently resettled communities in Jaffna and Trincomalee districts through United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The support is amounting to Rs. 142 million.

The support aims to create sustainable livelihood opportunities for targeted communities in agriculture, fisheries, livestock and alternative income-generation activities to revitalize economic opportunities at the community level by providing access to productive inputs, skills trainings, tools, equipment, seeds and vital infrastructure, and increasing local employment.

The support aims of estimated 1000 families as direct beneficiaries in the two districts.

In November 2015, Norway supported through UNDP Rs. 67 million to the newly resettled community in the Valalai and Thellipalai areas in Jaffna District to start their livelihoods.
