CID accuses Gangodawila court registrar

CID accuses Gangodawila court registrar Featured

The registrar of the Gangodawila magistrate’s court has been accused of continuing to delay submitting records to the CID of the June 02 hearing of the case against former Colombo additional magistrate Thilina Gamage.

Sent on compulsory leave for having kept a baby elephant illegally, Gamage surrendered to courts on that day and magistrate Kanishka Wijeratne enlarged him on Rs. 500,000 cash bail and four sureties of Rs. 2.5 million each.

However, he left the court on that day without posting bail and the deposits were made only around 2.00 pm on the following day.

After coming to know about that, a senior official of the CID met the court registrar and inquired about it.

The registrar admitted that Gamage had made the deposit at around 2.00 pm on June 03.

The CID official has then requested a copy of the court records into that day’s hearing.

The registrar refused, and arriving there magistrate Wijeratne too, said the records could be given only on the coming Monday, which was 06 June.

The CID is to lodge a complaint to the Judicial Services Commission against this and also to file a revised application against Gamage’s being given bail.

However, the registrar had not made available to the CID the court records by the afternoon of 06 June.

The registrar is thus continuing to delay submitting the records, but was so prompt on a previous occasion when Wijeratne gave a ruling on Gamage, in order to facilitate the suspended judge in a high court hearing against him on the following day.
