Senanayake quizzed over Thajudeen murder Featured

The CID recorded a lengthy statement from former senior DIG Anura Senanayake yesterday (18) that began in the morning and ended around 11.30 in the night.

He was questioned over the concealing and destroying of evidence and covering up investigations into the murder of rugger player Wasim Thajudeen.

Senanayake is due to be present at the CID at 2.00 pm today for further questioning, after which he is to be produced before courts.

The statement volunteered by the then traffic OIC of Narahenpita police, Inspector Sarathchandra on May 16 as per clause 127 of the criminal procedure code has tightened the noose on Senanayake, police sources say.

Furthermore, Inspector Sumith Perera, who is in remand custody in connection with the case, has informed police through his lawyers that he too, was prepared to give a statement as per clause 127 of the criminal procedure code, the sources add.
