He died at Peradeniya Teaching Hospital on May 14, aged 83 years.
He became the youngest professor of English at the age of 31 years.
Prof. Halpe was the dean of faculty of arts at Peradeniya University.
His remains will be taken to the university tomorrow and the funeral takes place at 3.00 pm at Mahaiyawa cemetery.
