Schoolboy seeks Rs. 10m compensation from police Featured

The schoolboy arrested and later freed in connection with the murder of the girl Seya Sadevmi of Kotadeniyawa yesterday (04) filed a fundamental rights petition seeking Rs. 10 million in compensation from police.

The petitioner says he had been inhumanly harassed and insulted following his arrest by police, who had beaten him up and taken his pictures without clothes on, which had led to his being hospitalized for treatment.

The plaint, filed by Saliya Peiris, wants a report submitted by Kotadeniya police as to what investigation had been conducted with his arrest.

It seeks an order to the IGP to file action and punish Kotadeniyawa OIC Sujith Udayakumara, Negombo ASP Jayantha Athukorale and CID inspector Lasantha Ratnayake.

Lawyers Rukshan Nanayakkara, Iresh Seneviratne, Lisitha Sachindra and Thishaya Weragoda are also appearing for the petitioner.
