Written evidence has come to light that Rs. 3.5 million of the State Mortgage and Investment Bank had been given to Pushpa Rajapaksa Foundation, run by Basil Rajapaksa’s wife, without cabinet approval.

Ministers should approve if a state institution grants a sum of more than Rs. 500,000.

The FCID has taken custody of the related file and is conducting an investigation.

Meanwhile, the SMIB is investigating several instances of financial irregularities under certain of his predecessors, said incumbent chairman Tissa Jinadasa.
