Dilhara who is an all-rounder and had excelled in bowling in the one day and Twenty20 format, decided to resign from the One day format of the game from yesterday (23).
He revealed his decision at a press conference that was convened at the Moore’s sports club yesterday.
“I have proved myself through my performances at every format of the game, but the team captain never gave me the opportunity to play in the team and the team selectors too repeatedly exempted me from the team during selections. I have decided to resign due to frustration over this situation,” he said.
However, he said that he had been accorded the opportunity to play for the New South Wales district team in Australia and he would take up the opportunity to play for the NSW team for the next six months.
Subsequently he plans to take up residence in Australia, but added that given the opportunity, he would give it up readily and play for the Sri Lanka Twenty20 team.
Lokuhettige has represented Sri Lanka in nine One-Day encounters and two Twenty20 matches.
