Ramitha in national team – Keheliya to Maithri’s team? Featured

Ramitha Rambukwella’s inclusion in the Sri Lanka team for yesterday’s T-20 game against England has been described as a political decision, and led to speculation that it was the result of his father Keheliya having agreed to support president Maithripala Sirisena.

Ramitha is touring England with the ‘A’ team, but did not play in the two matches that have been played so far.

There have been criticisms about his inclusion in the ‘A’ team too, as he has failed to perform in domestic tournaments.

Also, he got involved in a fight with Kithruwan Vithanage at Waters’ Edge, Battaramulla, but got scot free, while Kithruwan was handed a suspension for one year.

Ramitha was included in the national team on a previous occasion too, and at both instances, the chief selector has been Sanath Jayasuriya.

In yesterday’s T-20 game, Ramitha managed only 19 runs with the bat, as Sri Lanka were bowled out for 140.

England reached the target in 17.2 overs with the loss of only two wickets.
