Over 100,000 expected at Lord's for Sri Lanka Test

Over 100,000 cricket fans are expected at Lord’s over the first four days of the third England v Sri Lanka Investec Test Match, which starts on Thursday.

The first three days of the match are very close to selling out, with only 1500 tickets remaining for day four.

The Home of Cricket, which traditionally hosts the first Test match of the summer, was allocated the third match of the Sri Lanka series in light of the ongoing redevelopment of the Warner Stand.

Reconstruction work on the new stand has continued into the season but will cease for this fixture, with a temporary stand having been erected with 268 public seats.

Seating in the new Warner Stand will be available in time for the England v Pakistan Investec Test match which begins on 14th July.

The completed new stand will be opened at the start of the 2017 season. It will include a state-of-the-art match control and match officials’ facility, photovoltaic roof panels for electricity generation and new catering facilities.

The J.P. Morgan Media Centre has also been refurbished, with the first of a two-phase project being completed earlier this month. Improvements include faster and more efficient lifts, a new air-conditioning system, larger broadcasting boxes and improved photographers’ facilities.

Phase two of the project will begin upon the completion of the 2016 season, and will be completed in time for 2017, when Lord’s will host the final of the ICC Women’s World Cup.

Derek Brewer, MCC Chief Executive, said: "We are very much looking forward to the England v Sri Lanka Investec Test Match on Thursday, and I am delighted with our ticket sales thus far."

"At a time when Test attendances are fostering debate into the future of the longest format, it is heartening to see how popular Test cricket at Lord’s remains."

"We have seen a few changes here over the winter, with significant progress having been made on the new Warner Stand and some impressive internal changes to the J.P. Morgan Media Centre. We are looking forward to an engaging contest at the Home of Cricket this week."
