She was crowned Miss Sri Lanka in 2007 and had represented Sri Lanka at the Miss Universe 2008 beauty pageant. She also participated for Miss International 2007 and eligible to enter to top 15 list.

In 2012 Aruni won the 3rd place at 2nd edition of Bride of the World 2012 competition held in Macau, China.

She is currently an actress, model and a TV presenter.
