Two Maldivian youths ran extortion racket from Dehiwala Featured

Sri Lanka’s CID is investigating two Maldivian youths who had extorted money from more than 50 wealthy Maldivians, including five ministers, Lakbima reports.

The youths had used nude photographs of their victims to extort money from them.

On a complaint by a Maldivian vehicle dealer, the CID arrested the two youths from a hotel at Dehiwela.

Via skype, the two youths had conversed with the businessman and photographed him in the nude.

Using the photographs, they demanded Rs. 10 million from the businessman, who got to know the extortionists were operating from Sri Lanka and lodged a complaint.

The CID investigated and traced the two youths to the Hill Street, Dehiwela hotel.

Checking their laptops, police found nude photographs of many Maldivians.
