3-month extension for missing persons commission

The mandate of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry into Missing Persons has been extended by three months, the Commission Secretary says.

To date, the commission has received over 20,000 complaints, including 5,000 complaints from relatives of missing security forces personnel.

The three-member committee that comprised Mano Ramanathan, Priyanthi Suranjana Vidyaratna, and former High Court Judge Maxwell Parakrama Paranagama, was appointed by Extraordinary Gazette, No. 1823/42, under the provisions of Section 2 of the Commission of Inquiry Act.

The commission sought an extension as its tenure ended in mid February.
