Basil has made his views known to a group of JO MPs with regard to the proposals made by UPFA general secretary Mahinda Amaraweeera, one of the MPs told Sri Lanka Mirror.

SLFP supporters have welcomed president Sirisena’s recent criticism of the UNP leadership and his having spoken on behalf of the armed forces and SLFP leaders, they have told Basil.

In such a scenario, the supporters are calling for support to form a government by their party, the MPs added.

Responding, Basil has told them not to be misled by such remarks, and instructed Prasanna Ranatunga to call a meeting of SLFP electoral organizers removed by president Sirisena.

However, a majority of JO MPs have welcomed general secretary Amaraweera’s proposal to accept them back to the SLFP-led UPFA.

Amaraweera has made a revolutionary and crucial proposal to the JO, reported Weerawansa’s lankacnews website, adding that its leaders have held several rounds of discussions with regard to the proposal, and a final decision is expected within days.
