Amaraweera has suggested that in order to reach consensus between the two sides, ex-president Mahinda Rajapaksa be given an honorary position in the SLFP and a Rajapaksa family member appointed to a top party position.

The UPFA general secretary has proposed that if that top position went to Chamal Rajapaksa, the consent of president Maithripala Sirisena could be obtained without delay.

JO MPs this afternoon met Amaraweera and told him that the talks could proceed if the president agreed to give a responsible position to Namal Rajapaksa.

Amaraweera informed the president about that, and was told in return to go ahead with the discussions.

Amaraweera has made a revolutionary and crucial proposal to the JO, reported Wimal Weerawansa’s lankacnews website, adding that its leaders have held several rounds of discussions with regard to the proposal, and a final decision is expected within days.
