Indian media group warns of impersonators in Sri Lanka

The Indian Federation of Working Journalists (IFWJ) has written to President Maithripala Sirisena warning him of some impersonators who are to attend an event in Colombo.

IFWJ claims a batch of some nine to ten persons, pretending to be journalists from India (impersonating as Office-bearers and members of IFWJ), are likely to participate in a conference in Colombo this week, organized by the Sri Lanka Press Association (SLPA), which the President is scheduled to address.

“The Sri Lanka Government is directly affected because this visit is being sponsored by the Sri Lanka Tourism in Colombo. These fake mediapersons from India can hardly contribute any writings to promote Sri Lankan tourism. None of them belong to any mainstream media in India. These “journalists” claim to work for media institutions which are non-existent,” IFWJ said.

IFWJ has urged the President not to allow the “fake journalists” to illegally use the IFWJ banner at the Colombo conference, which will amount to a violation of Indian laws and the statutory order of the Delhi Government.
