I will resolve the issue, be patient - PM

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has vowed to commit himself upon his return to the country, to resolving the political dispute that has arisen between the government and the civil society organisations, who worked tirelessly and with commitment to bring the common presidential candidate and the good governance regime to power.

He further pointed out that although it is easy to create disputes and lose close ties but getting these parties together was the difficult job that has now been thrust upon him. However, he said that he was committed to the country and the people and that he would gladly take upon any task that is placed upon his shoulder to secure a better future for the country and its people.

The Prime Minister made these comments from Brussels, Belgium in response to media queries regarding the volatile situation that has arisen in the country as a result of the statement made by President Maithripala Sirisena recently.
He further stated;
No harm to the UNP:

He said there was no impact on the UNP as a result of the statement made by President Sirisens and that the UNP was a strong political force that was forging ahead in a stable manner.

This statement has no bearing on the National government and it would in no way affect the future plans of the government to develop the country and its current course. This incident has in no way created any cracks within the Unity government, assured Wickremesinghe.

He further stated that the Joint Opposition and certain media organisations were using this situation to gain cheap and sadistic pleasure, adding that certain media organisations had gone to the extent of naming a new Prime Minister as well.

“President Sirisens has not made any statement after this incident, but certain parties are imagining the worst and are deriving cheap pleasure from it,” he said.
