Bone specimens seized from SAITM are Thajudeen’s? Featured

The CID yesterday (03) afternoon took into custody more than 100 bone specimens from SAITM in Malabe.

It is investigating a complaint that parts of bones of slain ruggerite Wasim Thajudeen had been taken to the private university.

Armed with a search warrant issued by the Colombo additional magistrate, CID officials, together with the Colombo JMO, made an inspection for around four hours.

They were looking for missing thigh and chest bone parts of Thajudeen.

DNA test

The seized specimens are to be subjected to a DNA testing.

Director of SAITM Sameera Senaratne said the specimens received by them had been recorded and accepted in accordance with the law.

Its vice chancellor Prof. Ananda Samarasekara stands accused of removing several bone samples of Thajudeen after performing the inquest, when he was the Colombo JMO.

The CID has received information that Samarasekara had taken around 15 to 20 parcels of bone samples to SAITM a few days before his retirement as the JMO.

Additional magistrate Nishantha Peiris has ordered that a report be submitted tomorrow.
