Chinese high speed railways reach new highs!

The Chinese high speed railways reached new highs in the past decade by surpassing the other developed nations, says deputy chief engineer Prof. Zho Guotang of China Railway Corporation.

He made the comment during a meeting with a group of journalists from Asian countries who are presently touring China.

By last year, China had a 121,000 km long railway line, when compared to just 21,000 km in 1949, he said.

China Railway Corporation owns the second biggest railway line and the longest high speed railway line, which is 21,000 km and incidentally accounts for 60 per cent of the high speed railway lines globally, said Prof. Guotang.

Only Japan (2,800 km), France (2,036 km) and Spain (2,000 km) have high speed railway lines extending to more than 2,000 km, he noted.

At present, China Railway Corporation is laying high speed railway lines in Indonesia, Laos, Hungary and Pakistan.

High speed railway lines are very profitable ventures for the Chinese economy, he said.
