Amnesty for illegal migrant workers in Qatar

The Qatari Ministry of Interior has declared a three-month amnesty for illegal migrant workers to leave the country.

The amnesty is in force from September 1 to December 1, 2016.

Migrant workers living and working in Qatar without extending their visa can voluntarily return to their countries during this period.

The Ministry said those who used the amnesty to voluntarily leave Qatar would not be fined or punished.

Sri Lankan Bureau of Foreign Employment urges Sri Lankan migrant workers to use this period to return to the country without punishment, as the Qatari Ministry of Interior intends to begin investigations on illegal workers after the amnesty is over.

This is the third grace period granted by the government of Qatar.
