Dole in dire predicament over state land occupation Featured

The FCID has commenced investigations against Dole Lanka (Pvt.) Ltd. for forcibly acquiring 1,000 acres of state land for banana cultivation.

The investigation was initiated based on a complaint made by the JVP Western Provincial Councillor Asoka Ranwala.

According to the complaint Dole Lanka had forcibly acquired 1,000 acres of state land in the Kuda Oya, Demodara and Wekada areas.

In spite of the Wild Life Department filing charges against Dole Lanka, the company is continuing their activities contrary to the court verdict.

Dole Lanka is known to have taken over lands of farmers worldwide and have been engaged in fruit and vegetable cultivation and supply. This American multinational company was later taken over by Japanese ownership.

It is also learnt that this company received the assistance of Basil Rajapaksa, Jagath Pushpakumara and Shashendra Rajapaksa under the previous regime.
