Tea to the rescue of the CPC Featured

Iran wants the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) to settle a 256 million dollar unsettled bill before signing an agreement to buy crude from the supplier again, say CPC sources.

Visiting Tehran to discuss the matter, minister Chandima Weerakkody has looked into the possibility of get that payment settled through tea exports to Iran.

Accompanying him in the tour were officials of the Attorney General’s Department.

Plans are to pay back the debt before the end of this year, after which the Sapugaskanda refinery is to buy Iran light.
