Nearly Rs. 01 billion worth of equipment donated by China on 09 July 2009 were ordered by the then secretary to the president Lalith Weeratunga in writing to be released without the payment of taxes.
The FCID has conducted investigations on the TIN no. 114638323 issued to the taxpayer when the equipment was released.
VIS Broadcasting was registered at Samagam Medura under registration no. PV 63832 on 11 April 2008.
Its first director board consisted of Nedigamuwa Lalith Pium Perera, Kapila Gamini Samarasinghe Dissanayake, Rangani Hettiarachchi and Kassapa Senarath Dissanayake.
These directors were removed from time to time and appointed in their places were Narendra Seelanatha, Sachitra Kavishan Dissanayake, Sadhya Karunajeewa, Dinesh Jayawardena, Menaka Liyanage and Sujani Bogollagama.
The founding key shareholder Vindya Hettiarachchi, a closest relative of ex-president Mahinda Rajapaksa, resigned in March 2013.
In 2011, VIS Broadcasting reached agreements with CSN, Red FM, Sinha FM and Youth FM.
The nominal investor Nilanga Indrajith Hettiarachchi had not made any investment on this project, and it was the Rajapaksa sons who had invested by using him as a front.
Investigations are underway to determine as to how the capital for starting VIS Broadcasting was found and bank accounts of the director board members are being investigated.
However, police sources say political interference has prevented statements being recorded from certain persons connected to this company.
