The SLFP disciplinary committee will be tasked with taking action with regard to the party MPs who had attended the May Day rally at Kirulapone, says its general secretary Duminda Dissanayake.

Party leaders had warned earlier that MPs taking part in the event headed by ex-president Mahinda Rajapaksa would face strong disciplinary action.

Disregarding the warning, many SLFP MPs and ex-ministers participated in the rally.

Dissanayake has told BBC Sandeshaya that decisions would be taken fearlessly to protect the party.

The party’s May Day report will be submitted to the Central Committee, which will show who were absent at the May Day rally in Galle.

The general secretary said he could not say for now as to what action would be taken against the regional leaders who did not take part.
