ICTA to create 800 SMART Social Circles Featured

The Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka.(ICTA ) has launched the SMART Social Circle.

The main objective of this initiative is to be the foremost social movement to foster ethical and responsible use of Social Media and other emerging communication technologies in citizen journalism, good governance, disaster risk management etc.

Its foremost mission is to provide strategic, technological & commercial foundation needed to encourage, and promote use of all social media and emerging Information & Communication Technologies and develop an environment conducive to the achievement of the nation’s intellectual, cultural and social aspirations through ICT.

The SMART social circle initiated by ICTA is to empower citizens through Information and Communication Technologies and to promote use of Social Media to improve their living standards by enhancing their income levels and improving their living environment who are becoming digitally literate.

Members of Community organizations, school children, youth, house wives, Small and Medium scale enterprises, social activists are considered as the target audience of this national initiative.

There are 60 SSCs established across 5 districts in the pilot phase of the project. ICTA in collaboration with key and other stakeholders has plans to expand this initiative to all the districts island wide during year 2016 which will create 800 SMART Social Circles.
